About the Library

The Automated Library of Tagore Government Arts and Science College has been a beacon of knowledge since its establishment in 1963. Over the years, it has grown immensely in its collection, services, and facilities to meet the ever-changing demands of students, faculty, and researchers.

With a collection of over 98345 books, journals, and reference works, the library serves more than 4000 students and 176 staff members across various disciplines. It also provides access to e-resources through INFLIBNET and N-LIST, enabling users to remain connected with global scholarly communications.

The library functions with different sections including Acquisition, Periodicals, Binding, Reference, Science, Humanities, Commerce, and French to ensure smooth functioning and easy accessibility. Modern services such as Internet access, reprographic facilities, inter-library loans, and access to digital resources make the library a central hub for academic activities.

It caters to the needs of UG, PG, and Research Scholars by providing high-quality reference material, periodicals, and digital content. The library also has rules and guidelines to ensure effective use of resources. Strict adherence to rules ensures discipline and smooth operation of services.

📘 Future Plans & Library Rules

Future Plans

  • To open the gate of resources for other college students also - Through MoU.
  • To procure more e-books for meeting the academic and research needs of our students and faculty members.
  • To subscribe and obtain more research material such as peer-reviewed journals, data banks of both international and national repute.
  • To build a new library block with multiple floors for a digital library and mini conference hall to conduct library talks.

Library Rules

  1. The library is open to all the students and staff of the college.
  2. The library is open on all working days from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. It is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and other authorized holidays.
  3. Readers are not allowed to enter the library with their personal belongings.
  4. Readers using the library are prohibited from indulging in conversation or disturbing others. Failure to observe this will result in disciplinary action.
  5. No reader shall write upon, damage, or make any marks on library books.
  6. Date labels and book pockets shall not be tampered with. Violations will be taken seriously.
  7. Each student is issued 2 tickets. A book will be lent only in exchange for a ticket, which is returned upon returning the book.
  8. Library tickets are not transferable.
  9. Lost tickets must be reported in writing. A duplicate will be issued only after 15 days if not recovered.
  10. A fine of ₹20/- must be paid for each lost ticket.
  11. Books are lent for 15 days. Overdue books incur a fine of 5 paise per day. Students with dues cannot access the library or receive certificates.
  12. Books may be renewed once for 15 days, provided no one else has requested the same book.
  13. Books in high demand may not be renewed even before the due date.
  14. The Librarian may recall any book at any time.
  15. Readers are not allowed to sub-lend books.
  16. Reference books, dictionaries, and rare materials cannot be borrowed.
  17. Readers are responsible for damage/loss of books or property. If replacement isn’t possible, 4x the value must be paid.
